Middle Management
What happens when a society technologically advances so far they no longer need too many people to produce things? Too many chefs spoil the spaghetti sauce according to the Brady Bunch, so what do too many middle managers do to a corporation or even a company?
If people aren't required to produce things others need, then people try to produce things they think others need. Some are better than others in the art of bullshit!
What happens to the value of your time in this kind of situation? Your time pays for trinkets and baubles. What's that worth? Is an hour of your life worth an over-sized, piss-poor pen that breaks after three clicks? Is five hours of your life equal to a day at Disneyland?
What happens to a country of people who don't make anything? People don't think what they'd like in order to maintain their responsibilities to an organization. In order to maintain the sense of objectivity demanded by Human Resources, we rent time in our skull. Can such a country still make something of itself? Is the mindless blur of days a price we must pay to live like we do?
The answer may be yes, but have we faced the question yet?
Do we all have the vocabulary we need to properly discuss such matters?
